Biomedical Renaissance, LLC -- A New and Timely Business Venture
Dr. David Harder, Professor and Director of the Cardiovascular
Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), in conjunction
with Paul and Lon Frederick of Frederick & Company, Inc.,
have established a consulting firm -- Biomedical Renaissance,
LLC.
Dr. Harder is Editor-In-Chief of The American Journal of Physiology:
Heart & Circulatory Physiology and consults internationally
for a variety of business, academic, and government interests.
He will have direct responsibility for both the scientific
oversight of the consulting program, as well as the selection
of the consulting team. Dr. David Gutterman, holder of the
Northwestern Mutual Endowed Chair for Investigative Cardiology
and Professor and Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine
at MCW, will assist Dr. Harder in selecting a group of recognized
experts representing a diverse array of medical and biomedical
applications from organizations within North America and Europe.
It is anticipated that a number of consultants will be faculty
members of MCW. Additionally, Biomedical Renaissance intends
to provide consulting services for new veterinary therapies
and drugs. Accordingly, Dr. Randy Schuett, currently President
of the Wisconsin Veterinary Association, will be a consultant
for the company.
The intent of Biomedical Renaissance is to offer expert consulting
opinions and advice, along with unbiased factual reports on
biomedical issues, problems, products, and new potentials
of existing pharmaceuticals. It will provide new genetic based
strategies in medical and biomedical applications unrelated
to direct interests or discoveries of the company, its officers,
consultants or employees. In the course of consultation, the
company may pursue joint ventures involving proprietary opinions,
techniques or services.
Paul and Lon Frederick are Chairman and President respectively
of Frederick & Company, Inc., an investment-banking firm
formed in 1960. They will be responsible for coordinating
business and corporate initiatives, bringing a wealth of experience
providing financial assistance and advice to selective emerging
growth companies.
The target audience for Biomedical Renaissance is expected
to be varied, ranging from angel investment groups to academic
and government institutions requiring a knowledgeable, state-of-the-art
assessment of new biomedical products, pharmaceuticals, chemical
reagents, and medical devices for new treatments and market
place potential. The rapidly emerging field of genetic therapy
will need critical evaluation as new genetic tests targeting
genes related to disease are established and subsequent genetic
therapies are commercialized. The majority of consultants
used by Biomedical Renaissance will be scientists employed
by top ranked academic institutions and/or highly-respected
academic clinicians experienced in using basic research in
clinical practice. This will allow Biomedical Renaissance
to serve as "a think tank" for academic, governmental
and pharmaceutical institutions providing ideas for new therapies
and biochemical reagents and in evaluating new drugs, chemical
and biomedical devices.
